Sheila Sloan Frahm
Former Lieutenant Governor of the State of Kansas (1995
- 1996)
Sheila Frahm was elected 44th Lieutenant Governor of Kansas.
Sheila is currently the Executive Director for the Kansas
Association of Community College Trustees, which is an umbrella organization representing all 19 Kansas
community colleges.
Sheila has been in public service and elected office from the local to the national
level for many years. She began with service on the Colby Board of Education and
Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center Board, serving both as Chair and Vice-chair,
and was Vice-chair while a member of the Kansas State
Board of Education. Sheila
was elected to the Kansas
Senate representing the 40th District of Northwest Kansas
and was the first woman to hold a leadership position when her colleagues elected
her as Senate Majority Leader. She was elected Lt. Governor in 1994, and also was
Secretary of Administration and Vice-Chair of the Governor’s Cabinet. In 1996,
she was appointed U.S. Senator. While in Washington DC, Sheila served on the Banking,
Armed Services and Agriculture Committees to represent the needs of Kansas.
Sheila splits her time between Colby, where she was born and raised, and Topeka.
She and her husband of 43 years, Ken, raise corn and wheat in Thomas, Cheyenne and
Sheridan counties.
